To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field, it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before and which shall never be seen again.

#53,641  Fall on the Hailstone, Buffalo National River

The Hailstone is beautiful and rugged. It is the wildest area of the Buffalo National River. This shot was in late fall color, really past peak. Using HDR enabled me to capture the characteristic and dramatic fall sky as well as the total tonal range with mid-morning light. This is from a three-shot exposure.

This was shot on the same day as the other HDRs on this page. It is the "Hailstone" shooting down river rather than up. The HDR amplified the color and rendered the sky an interesting way.
About the Hailstone . . .

The "Hailstone" is the name given to the Buffalo National River from the Boxley Bridge to the source. This is the wildest area of the Buffalo National River. It is within a federally designated wilderness area. The river in this area is a destination to expert kyakers and canoeists.

This HDR is another standard three-exposure shot. This time I emphasized the exposed rocky bottom and the textures of the river bed.
