#54,355 Sweetgum in the Mist, Roark Bluff
This is one of my best photos for 2008. This was taken in backlit fog on the Buffalo River at Roark Bluff in the Steel Creek Campground. The HDR was my normal three exposure combination. It creates a painterly compostion that seems luminous. This has been a very successful print for me.
#57,415 Fall Color at Big Hollow, Buffalo River (right)
This is another backlit HDR. The bluff was in deep shadow, but shooting it in HDR opened up the shadows and provided an interesting luminosity that only comes with back-lit leaf photos. Much of this is transmitted instead of reflected light. This is a major animal crossing in the Boxley Valley area.
#57,525 Buffalo River Fall Color Near Ponca (left)
Of this series of HDRs, this one is typical reflected light. The characteristic HDR sky coupled with no blocked shadows or burned highlights makes this image vibrantly alive.
